Seeking a place to share your angst, fears, and hopes about the climate crisis/mega crisis with colleagues in CPA, a place to "de-stress" and find strength in community?

Climate cafes are safe, informal gatherings to openly share thoughts and feelings about environmental changes, the climate crisis and all emotions brought out by these changes.

Facilitated by trained CPA members. ALL CPA members welcome.

This Climate Cafe is not a therapy group and does not offer clinical service, supervision, or professional consultation. This Climate Cafe is a facilitated, supportive conversation for individual reflections about the climate crisis.

By registering, you are acknowledging that the Climate Psychiatry Alliance-hosted Climate Cafe is not intended to provide legal or professional care or advice. Instead, all information, content, and materials connected to the Climate Cafe are for personal reflective purposes only. Information shared in the Climate Cafes is offered by both participants and facilitators and is not intended to provide up-to-date legal, scientific, or other information.

Microplastics and Mental Health: a Presentation by Dr. Elizabeth Ryznar

5 pm PT / 8 pm ET

Join Dr. Elizabeth Ryznar for a fascinating and sobering look into the powerful effects of microplastics on mental health.

Plastics are petrochemical products whose production and waste has exploded exponentially over the past few decades. This talk will explore the multiple ways that plastics can affect brain health across the plastics life cycle. Participants will learn how plastics production exacerbates climate change and air pollution, what direct and indirect neuropsychiatric effects plastic have, and why recycling is not the solution to this problem.

Dr. Elizabeth Ryznar is an experienced psychiatrist and medical educator. She completed her medical training at Harvard Medical School, her residency training at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, and her postdoctoral training in medical education at Johns Hopkins. She also has a Masters degree in Comparative Social Policy from Oxford University. She currently serves as the Director of Education at Sheppard Pratt, Associate Chair of Psychiatry at St. George's University, and part-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and co-edited a textbook called Landmark Papers in Psychiatry with Oxford University Press.
